Grace M. Ouellette

Grace M. Ouellette, 94, of Vermillion, passed away Monday, Jan. 11, 2010 at the Sanford Vermillion Care Center.
Grace Mabel Olivia Olson was born on a farm north of Elk Point on April 28, 1915 to Robert and Minnie (Garberg) Olson. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church rural Elk Point, and attended Pleasant Valley country school and graduated from Elk Point High School in 1933.

Grace married EA Ouellette on Jan. 8, 1934, and he passed away in 1994 in Arizona where they wintered for 23 years. They farmed in the Elk Point area before moving to the farm east of Vermillion in 1941, where she enjoyed life as a homemaker and working at the Vermillion IGA grocery store from 1954-1958 and then at the Davis Pharmacy until 1972 before retiring. She lived on the farm until moving to Dakota Gardens in Vermillion and later to Wel-life  assisted living in Elk Point and finally to the Sanford Vermillion Care Center.

She was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Vermillion, circle group, Bible study, Just-To-Be club and senior citizens. She enjoyed crafts of all kinds and especially hard hanger, painting, ceramics, quilting and making dolls. 

She is survived by her son, Loren Ouellette; and special friend, Jan Dunham of Burbank; a daughter, Sharon McVeigh of Colorado Springs, CO; and three grandchildren, Nichol, Jacqueline and Lynn; and three great-grandchildren, Kaelin, Taylor and Davis.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Margaret Weatherby; and three brothers, Oliver, Leonard and George.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 16 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Vermillion with burial to follow in the Calvary Cemetery in Vermillion. Visitation will be Friday, Jan. 15 beginning at 6 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at the Hansen Funeral Home in Vermillion.
