Lois Lee Massey, 73, rural Jefferson, died Thursday, Dec. 31, 2009, at Prairie Estate Care Center in Elk Point.
Lois was born Jan. 19, 1936, in rural Vermillion, to Cecil and Beulah Thorson. Lois, Elk Point's Class of 1954 Homecoming Queen, married her Homecoming King and high school sweetheart, Kenneth Ray Massey on May 13, 1956, in Elk Point. They spent their lives together in Des Moines, IA, Carlisle, IA, and rural Jefferson.
Lois was a fun and loving wife, mother, and grandmother who had an adventuresome spirit! She enjoyed climbing 38 of Colorado's mountains, skydiving, eating Billy Boy's chocolate ice cream cones, and spending time with her grandchildren.
Grateful for having shared her life are son, Mike (Joyce) Massey of Manning, IA, daughter, Kelly (Russ) Stone of Vermillion, grandsons, Ken (Amber) Massey of Carroll, IA, and Brody and Brennan Stone of Vermillion, granddaughters, Beth Massey, Des Moines, Christine Massey, Manning, and Mackenzie Stone, Vermillion, sisters JoAnne Turner, Elk Point, and Sharon Wiseman, Iowa Falls, IA, and many close extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth; parents, Cecil and Beulah Thorson; brother, Bruce Thorson; sister, Betty Abraham; brother-in-laws, Verdell Abraham and Robert Wiseman.
The family deeply appreciates the support of family and friends during Lois' illness. Special heartfelt thanks go to Hospice of Siouxland, Right At Home, Prairie Estates Care Center, and Hansen Funeral Home.
