Loretta Johnson, 96, of Vermillion, died Thursday, Dec. 31, 2009 at the Yankton Care Center in Yankton.
Loretta Huetson was born Sept. 21, 1913 in Sioux Falls, to Rea and Emma (Benjamin) Huetson. She attended the University High School in Vermillion, and graduated from the Mount Marty High School in Yankton. She married LaRue Johnson on Oct. 5, 1933 in Vermillion.
Loretta was a member of the VFW Auxiliary, loved to read and paint, spent time knitting and crocheting and even enjoyed creative writing.
She is survived by seven sons, Ron (Marge) of Yakima, WA, Richard (Mary Ann) of Emery, SD, Bill (Cheryl), Jim (Ann), Joe (Wanda), Paul (Diane) all of Vermillion, and Greg (Nancy) of Des Moines, IA. Also surviving her are two daughters, Donna Mary Chancellor of Vermillion, and Jane (Jim) Boyd of Cottage Grove, MN; a son-in-law, Kim (Mary) Sawatzke of Crofton, NE; 38 grandchildren, 87 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, LaRue; a daughter, Mary Kathryn Sawatzke; three brothers and a sister.
