Patricia L. Lewison, 69, of Vermillion, passed away Friday, Jan. 8, 2010 at the Sanford Vermillion Hospital, under hospice care, after a short battle with cancer.
Pat Withers was born Jan. 29, 1940 in Yankton, to Cleon and Stella (Hood) Withers. She graduated from Wakonda High School and attended Mount Marty graduating from South Dakota State University with her nursing degree, and later attending the University of South Dakota graduating with her teaching certificate in Physical Education and Health.
Pat worked as a public health nurse for many years before graduating from USD, she taught physical education at the university. After retirement, she enjoyed being a full time grandma and volunteered coaching basketball for many children in various age groups.
She was a member of the United Church of Christ in Vermillion and the American Legion Auxiliary in Wakonda.
She is survived by her husband, Stanley of Vermillion; two sons, Chad (Lisa) of Canton, and Robert of Vermillion; four daughters, Beth and Nichole Lewison both of Vermillion, Tricia (Cory) Heien of Pierre, and Lynn (Jeremi) Cowman of Harrisburg. Also surviving her is a sister-in-law, Doris Withers of Pierre; and eight grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Clifford Withers.
Funeral services were 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 12 at the United Church of Christ in Vermillion with burial following in the Union Cemetery in Wakonda.
