The funeral for Eleanore Ione Gronseth was 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 11, 2010, at the First Lutheran Church of Britton. Reverends Sara and Terrill Sorensen officiated. Spring burial will be in the Trondhjem Cemetery, Veblen.
Visitation was 4 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Price Funeral Chapel of Britton, with a 7:30 p.m. prayer service.
Eleanore passed away Saturday, Feb. 6, 2010, at the Wakonda Heritage Manor in Wakonda at the age of 83.
Eleanore Severson was born Nov. 7, 1926, to Robert and Anna (Tory) Severson in Victor Township, Marshall County, South Dakota. She was baptized and confirmed at Trondhjem Lutheran Church. After grade school in Victor #1 and graduation from Kidder High School in 1944, she attended Northern State College in Aberdeen. She taught four years in Marshall County schools. In Watertown Public Schools, she taught the sixth grade and was Special Education instructor for two years.
On June 15, 1952, she married Ambrose Gronseth in the first marriage performed at the new First Lutheran Church in Britton. She has been an active member of First Lutheran, serving as a Sunday School teacher, WELCA officer, and singing many years in the choir. She was a charter member of the Marshall County Historical Society. In 1998 she received the South Dakota Heart of FCE award. She was awarded a certificate for 50 years of service in the South Dakota Community and Family Extension Leaders in 2004, as a member of Britton Extension Club and Busy Bees Club. She served many years as historian and secretary for her Extension club.
Eleanore was a member of the Sons of Norway Odin Lodge, Fun After Fifty Senior Center and Marshall County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. She loved to work in her garden canning and processing the produce. She enjoyed traveling and visiting friends and relatives. In her later years, she enjoyed socializing at the Fun After Fifty Senior Center in Britton. She also greatly enjoyed baking bread, cinnamon rolls, lefse and goodies for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband, Ambrose Gronseth of Britton; four sons, Mark (Colleen) Gronseth of Wakonda, Timothy Gronseth of Hastings, NE, Dwight (Michele) Gronseth of Rochester, MN, and Wayne (Barbara) Gronseth of Mitchell; eight grandchildren, Alex Gronseth, Aaron Gronseth, Kevin Gronseth, Nicholas (Jessica) Gronseth, Nathaniel Gronseth, Brandon Gronseth, Collin Gronseth, Sara (John) Fleury; three great-grandchildren, Michela Gronseth, Madison Fleury, Bryson Fleury; and a brother, Herbert Severson of Aberdeen.
Preceding her in death were her parents.
The family will use memorials to establish a Music Fund at First Lutheran Church in her memory.
