The 2010 MISS SOUTH DAKOTA USA® and MISS SOUTH DAKOTA TEEN USA® pageants took place Sunday evening, Oct. 18, at the Brandon Valley Performing Arts Center in Brandon.
A capacity crowd filled the auditorium for the pageant finals, where the panel of judges selected Emily Anne Miller of Irene as MISS SOUTH DAKOTA USA® 2010, and Alyssa Hustrulid of Beresford as MISS SOUTH DAKOTA TEEN USA® 2010. Both titleholders will now advance and compete this year at the MISS USA® and MISS TEEN USA® national pageants.
Miller is the daughter of Mike and Joan Miller, and she will be competing at the Miss USA Pageant at Planet Hollywood on May 16 in Las Vegas, NV.
The state competition, which is held annually in Brandon, consisted of three proportional segments: evening gown, swimwear and interview. Eligible young women must be between the ages of 15 and 26 and be unmarried residents of South Dakota in order to compete in the pageant.
Emily and Alyssa will each receive thousands of dollars in prizes and awards. Most importantly, they will have the opportunity to compete for the national titles of MISS USA® and MISS TEEN USA® this year. Emily will compete for the title of MISS USA® 2010 on the live national telecast of MISS USA® on NBC this spring, and Alyssa will compete for the title of MISS TEEN USA® 2010 at the national pageant this year.
In addition, the new MISS USA® will go on to represent the United States in the MISS UNIVERSE® competition, which is televised in over 130 countries worldwide.
