The January Vermillion High School Student of the Month honors went to Tim Tigert and Amanda Jacobson. Tigert and Jacobson were honored for their academic and extra-curricular activities at VHS. First Bank & Trust-Vermillion will provide a $100 scholarship to each recipient.
Tigert "is well-versed and relevantly contributes to class on a daily basis," as related by his faculty endorsement. "He always has a kind thing to say and is very cordial." His parents are Robert and Brenda Tigert.
Tigert's activities include soccer, Jazz Band, football, and Quiz Bowl. He was recognized as All-State in soccer and he has performed as the Pep Bank conductor. He plans to attend South Dakota State University to major in biology with the eventual expectation of entering physical therapy school.
Jacobson has been active in theatre, National Honor Society, tennis and marching band. She was the Color Guard captain and contributed to the fourth place finish at the Quiz Bowl Nationals. She plans to work toward an architecture degree at college.
Her endorsement reported that "Amanda is a very focused, conscientious senior willing to go 'the extra mile'." Her parents are Kevin and Sheila Jacobson.
