The editors of South Dakota Magazine have visited hundreds of places in 25 years of publishing, but the most melodious must be the National Music Museum in Vermillion. The museum is featured in a special story about unique man-made places in the magazine's March/April issue.
The museum is housed in the University of South Dakota's former Carnegie Library, a stately building dating to 1911. In 1973 Arne Larson's collection of musical instruments moved in, and today it is a prime destination for the world's music scholars.
South Dakota Magazine celebrates its 25th anniversary in 2010. To celebrate the editors plan special anniversary stories in all six issues throughout the year. Future topics include our favorite South Dakota natural places, foods and celebrations.
South Dakota Magazine is published in Yankton. It explores the history, arts, culture, sports and outdoors of the state. To order a copy or to subscribe, call 1-800-456-5117.
