Vermillion Taekwondo is once again holding its annual "Board Break-a-thon," with the goal of breaking 2,010 boards and earning money for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
The event will begin at approximately 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 27 at the Vermillion Taekwondo Center on 10 E. Cherry Street. The public is invited to attend, observe and/or make donations to this important cause.
Last year students, ranging in age from 4 to adult broke 2,009 boards (the majority of which are re-breakable, with the last 100 being real, solid wood) and collected $1,200. Jon Trefz, fifth degree black belt and owner of Vermillion Taekwondo said, "This year, we hope to earn even more money for this important organization."
St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, located in Memphis, TN, is one of the world's premiere pediatric cancer research centers. Its mission is to find cures for children with cancer and other catastrophic diseases through research and treatment.
"I find my students get a lot of joy out of doing something that will help other children. Plus, we have a lot of fun doing it, too!" Trefz said.
