The 2010 Polar Plunge Fundraiser for the Vermillion Special Olympics will be held Sunday, April 11 at 1 p.m. in the field north of Pro's and west of the DakotaDome. Registration will be held from 1 to 2 p.m., and the plunge begins at 2 p.m.
To take part in the plunge, participants must collect a minimum of $100 per person. Checks may be made payable to SOSD. A registration and release of liability form also must be completed and returned before a person may participate. Registration may be done on the day of the event. The registration form is available at www.sosd.org.
Plungers will be in the water for only a few moments, and divers will be in the water to assist. Diving is prohibited; participants are required to wear shoes, and should also bring a towel and a change of clothing, including shoes. Changing rooms will be available for all plungers.
A secure area will not be provided for personal items. The Law Enforcement Torch Run and Special Olympics are not responsible for lost or stolen items.
All participants will receive a 2010 Polar Plunge long sleeve t-shirt. Prizes will be given for most money raised by an individual, by a group, by the highest "Too Chicken To Plunge" and for Best Costume!
People who are "too chicken to plunge" may still be a part of the fun and festivities. For a minimum $100 donation, they may join a team which is actually plunging, or start an entire team made up only of Too Chicken To Plunge (TCTP) participants. Individuals may also register as an individual TCTP participant.
Prizes will be given for most money raised by an individual jumping, most money raised by a team, and for best costume.
