The Vermillion Youth Wrestling Club had three state champions and placed five other wrestlers in the State AAU Tournament that was held in Brookings March 27-28.
The three state champions include Jesse Hastings in the Bantam 80 lb. Division, Brody Surrell in the Midget 112 lb. Division, and Brett Bye in the Schoolboy 110 lb. Division.
The five other Vermillion wrestlers that placed include Jack Kratz, fourth in the Bantam 55 lb. Division; Lucas Anglin, third in the Bantam 60 lb. Division; Carter Kratz, fourth in the Novice 100 lb. Division; Regan Bye, fourth in the Schoolboy 125 lb. Division; and Brandon Steenholdt, sixth in the Cadet 112 lb. Division.
Other state participants from Vermillion included Carter Mart, Ty Hertz, Brett Culver, Kyle Seibel, Hunter Christopherson, Brandon Hertz and Marshall Sineway. The three state champions, eight total place winners, and 15 total participants were all-time records for the Vermillion Youth Wrestling Club at the state tournament. Special recognition goes to Keith Burkhart who served as the head coach of the Vermillion youth wrestlers this season.
