Rev. Robert H. Eason, 89, of Vermillion for 12 years, died Wednesday, April 7, 2010 at the Prairie Estates Care Center in Elk Point.
A native of Charleston, SC, Eason was a United Methodist minister who served churches in NJ, NH, NC and Virginia for 39 years. He saw naval service during WWII, participating in the invasions of Sicily, Salerno and Normandy. Later as a Navy Chaplain, he served during the Korean Conflict.
He was united in marriage on Feb. 17, 1946 with Ensign Helen E. Mansfield of Newport, NH at the Naval Ammunition Depot in Hawthorne, NV.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Helen, of Vermillion; a daughter, Dr. Barbara E. Goodman (Douglas), a professor at the USD Medical School; and a son, Richard (Dayla), a foreign service officer with the State Department, now in Brussels, Belgium. Also surviving him are four grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; a brother and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a stillborn son; his parents; and two brothers and two sisters.
