April is the Month of the Military Child and in honor of these special kids and their families; the Vermillion Public Library will be hosting a Military Kids Story Time and Craft Day on Saturday, April 24. The program will begin at 2 p.m. in the Community Room at the library at 18 Church St. in Vermillion. There will be stories, treats and patriotic crafts.
Special guest reader will be Jenny Briest, wife of Sgt. (Ret.) Corey Briest, a member of Charlie Battery, 1st Battalion, 147th Field Artillery, who was injured in Iraq in 2005. Local members of the National Association for the Education of Young Children will provide cookies. South Dakota Public Broadcasting is providing activity bags for participants. The Burbank Feeders 4-H Club will be assisting with crafts. Susan Rolfes, local scrapbooker, will be showing how to make cards with the help of members of the American Legion Auxiliary. We will be making windsocks and wooden plaques. The industrial arts classes instructed by Glen Ekeren at Gayville-Volin School have helped to prepare materials for the crafts.
All military families and friends of military families are invited to attend. Please call Joyce Moore, children's librarian, at 677-7060 if you have questions.
