To have a spring track and field season in South Dakota when the weather never interferes is like having a dog which never has fleas. It just doesn't happen.
Vermillion High School's tracksters were to have started a three-meet week at Elk Point-Jefferson's invitational Tuesday, but rainy weather caused that event to be postponed until Thursday. That decision took the meet off the Tanagers' schedule because they already had their own invitational meet scheduled for that day.
Coach Lenni Billberg and her runners, jumpers and throwers still hope to finish the week on schedule at Dakota Valley's meet Saturday. The first events at North Sioux City are set to begin at 11 a.m.
Next week Vermillion has a two-meet schedule if weather allows. The Tanagers are slated to compete at Canton's invitational at 4 p.m. Tuesday and then to go back north to the Lennox invitational at the same time Thursday.
