With just five weeks until Wakonda's 125th celebration, organizers are scrambling to finish last-minute details and to begin soliciting entries for the various activities.
The celebration, which takes place July 1 – 4 in Wakonda, will feature two street dances, a 5K and one-mile run, the Sonny Clare Bike Ride and kids' bike rodeo, a tractor show, golf scramble, kids carnival, a volleyball tournament, a horseshoe tournament, beard and costume contests, the 125th pageant, "Prairie Hearts," a poker run, parade, and much more.
The 125th Grand Parade will be held Saturday, July 3, at 10 a.m. Entries are currently being sought for the parade. Families, organizations, businesses, and others are encouraged to enter the parade, which is being organized under the theme: "Wakonda: Past, Present, Future." Please register by June 14. Entries are needed – particularly from the 1950s and 1960s – for the Vintage Fashion Show, which takes place Friday, July 2, at 2 p.m. at the Father McMahon Center in Wakonda. Clothing items of all sorts (formal and casual) are needed for be worn in the show or for display only. Download an entry form at www.wakonda.net or call Lea Gustad at 267-2359. Entries will be collected for the show on June 5 or by special arrangement.
