Annie Graber, 95, of Vermillion, formerly of Marion, passed away Friday, June 18 at the Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls.
Annie Unruh was born Feb. 6, 1915 in Hurley, to Henry and Marie (Wek) Unruh, she graduated from Freeman High School and attended Freeman Junior College and received her teaching certificate. She taught in rural schools in the Freeman area, and started her own candy company; Annie's Candies where she made, gifted, and sold candy for many years.
She married Waldo "Slim" Graber on May 5, 1937 in Marion. She was an active member in the Salem Zion Mennonite church where she taught Sunday school for many years. Annie was very well known in the community for her wide array of hats. She loved flowers, gardening and was her happiest during family gatherings when a good game of pinochle could be played. Annie was a very accomplished baker.
Annie is survived by three sons, Morris (Judy) Graber of North Sioux City, Kermit (Shelly) Graber of Parkston, and Loren (Ellen) Graber of Des Moines, IA. She is also survived by a sister, Blondina Zangger of Mesa, AZ; 10 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Waldo; a brother, Ray Unruh; and two sisters, Esther Gusarson and Marie "Dolly" Zangger.
Funeral services were 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 23 at the Salem Zion Mennonite Church in Freeman, with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Visitation was one hour prior to the service at the church. Online condolences and obituary : hansenfuneralhome.com.
