"Come to Calvary's Holy Mountain" was the theme that led the convention of the South Dakota Lutheran Women's Missionary League, June 4-5 in Huron.
LWML vice president of Christian Life, Patti Ross brought greetings and information from the national LWML. Jan Struck, Indianapolis, IN, was the keynote speaker.
Delegates from across the state selected nine mission grants totaling $42,000, to be funded during the 2010-2012 biennium. Officers elected to four-year terms were: Nancy Duhachek, Yankton, vice president of human care; Vonda Sturzenbecher, Black Hawk, vice president of communications; Ann Cruse, Huron, financial secretary; Lorraine Mosemann, White Lake, secretary; Kathy McKinney, White, nominating committee; Marlys Larson, Vermillion, nominating committee; Mary Jo Stier, Onida, nominating committee; and Rev. Daniel Redhage, Centerville, pastoral counselor.
Those attending the convention participated in the following servant events: packaging items for the Orphan Grain Train, marking Bibles for prison ministry, painting the Puppet Place booth at the State Fair grounds, and writing cards to our military personnel. Gifts from the Heart were collected for Family Safe Center, Orphan Grain Train, Back Pack Program and the Salvation Army Food Pantry.
Brenda Martens and Marlys Larson were among the 223 attending from Concordia Lutheran Church, Vermillion.
