Wilma D. Bugbee, 91, of Vermillion, died Tuesday, June 8, 2010 at the Sanford Vermillion Care Center.
Wilma Wiley was born Aug. 13, 1918 in Burns, KS to Opie and Ida (Brooks) Wiley. She graduated from Emporia High School in Kansas in 1936, and received her teaching certificate from Kansas State Teachers College in Emporia. She taught in rural schools for eight years, and taught as a substitute teacher and teachers' aide in the Shawnee Mission School district in Prairie Village, KS.
She married Clarence Bugbee on May 2, 1942 in Kentucky, and, together, they returned to eastern Kansas after WWII to rear their family. They retired to Vermillion in 1997.
She is survived by her husband, Clarence, of Vermillion; a son, Darrel of Kansas City, MO; a daughter, Jolynn Bugbee and her husband, Ken Renner of Beresford; a sister, Verdene Henderson of Emporia; six grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Gary; and a brother, Eldon Lou.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 11 at the United Church of Christ in Vermillion, with family burial in the Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Emporia on Sunday at 1 p.m. Visitation was from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Hansen Funeral Home in Vermillion.
