13-14 Teeners’ season comes to an end

It took two days for their final game to be completed, but Vermillion's 13-14 VFW Teeners saw their season come to an end in their third game of the Region 1A tournament at Canton last week.

After defeating Elk Point-Jefferson on Monday and losing a tough 13-8 decision to Lennox on Tuesday, Vermillion took on Dakota Valley in a losers' bracket contest on Wednesday night.

Pitcher Jayce Huska kept Dakota Valley in check in the early going, and his team had a 2-1 lead until Dakota Valley slipped ahead 3-2 just before the game was halted due to an oncoming lightning storm.

Play was finally resumed on Thursday.  Vermillion fell behind 4-2 but scored once in the fifth inning and once more in the sixth to tie the game.  A bases-loaded single by Seth Miller put Vermillion up by 6-4, then Dakota Valley cut that lead in half.

Finally in the bottom of the seventh and final inning, Dakota Valley, batting as the home team, scored twice to win the game and end Vermillion's season.
The team, coached by Jason Huska, assisted by Steve Miller and Sco
tt Munger, lost only twice during the regular season and then twice during the tournament.
