Clay County 4-H to host 5K run/walk

Members of the Jolly J.J.'s 4-H club have been busy organizing the first Clay County 4-H, 5K run/walk.  Ashley Sorensen, a six-year member of the Jolly J.J.'s 4-H club, came up with the idea to organize a run/walk  to run in conjunction with the Clay County Fair. Club members thought that the run/walk would be a great way to get more people to check out what the Clay County Fair has to offer.  Club members decided that any money raised would be given to the Vermillion Food Pantry.  The Vermillion Food Pantry shelves become bare over the summer and this would be a way to help re-stock their pantry shelves.

The Clay County 4-H, 5K Run/Walk is set to be run on Saturday, Aug. 14 with the race starting at 9 a.m. The cost to participate is $20, which includes a T-shirt.  Pre-registrations are due by Monday, Aug. 2.  Anyone who registers after Aug. 2 will have to pay $25 and this cost may not include a t-shirt.  You may contact the Jolly J.J.'s co-leader, Pam Hanson, at 624-4747 or E-mail her at speedieethehermitcrab@hotmail.com for a registration brochure.  Information about the run/walk can be found at the Clay County Fair website which is: www.claycountyfair.net.

Pre-registered runners/walkers can pick up their packets anytime from 8 to 8:45 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 14.  Any runners/walkers who did not pre-register by Aug. 2 may register at this time also.  All participants, family members and friends are encouraged to bring items to donate to the Vermillion Food Pantry on Saturday, Aug. 14.  For every food pantry item donated their name will be put into a special drawing for prizes donated by local Vermillion businesses.  The prize list as well as food pantry need list can be found at the Clay County Fair web site www.claycountyfair.net.  The Jolly J.J.4-H club members are very excited about the 5K run/walk and hope to have a great turnout on Saturday, Aug. 14.
