The Vermillion Red Sox went 1-2 last week, improving their season's record to 9-7 as the regular season winds down toward the upcoming regional playoffs.
The Sox edged the Yankton Tappers, 6-5, Sunday at Prentis Park behind the nine-inning pitching of Brad Donovan. Colby Lessmann led the offense with a double.
Earlier in the weekend the Sioux City Saints dealt an 11-6 loss to the Red Sox. Kasey Neumann, who threw 7 1/3 innings, took the pitching loss. Cody Aughton was on the mound for one-third of an inning, and Robin Chute pitched 1 1/3 frames. Aughton had a double at the plate.
Last week the Renner Monarchs downed the Red Sox by a 5-2 count as Vermillion was held scoreless until a two-run top of the ninth. Robin Chute and and Dan Hansen had two hits apiece for Vermillion. Ken Longman was the pitching starter, relieved by Justin Green in the seventh.
The Red Sox are scheduled at the Saints next Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. and have a home date against the Renner Roadrunners at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
