More than 300 Yankton College Alumni will travel to Yankton to once again be reunited with old friends and classmates at the biennial 2010 all-class reunion held July 14 -17 with events occurring at various locations in the Yankton area.
The event begins with a pre-reunion gathering of Yankton College Theatre Alum, who will meet for a reception at the Kelly Inn, Wednesday at 6 p.m. They will gather again Thursday evening at the Black Steer for a social hour beginning at 6 p.m. and dinner at 7 p.m.
Registration for the reunion will be in the Kelly Inn lobby on Thursday, July 15, 1 to 5 p.m.; the Yankton College Office will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and a no-host get-together will be held at JoDean's that evening at 7 p.m.
On Friday, July 16, registration and Gift & Book Store hours are 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. with the first tee times for golfers at 10 a.m., and the YC office will be open from 1 to 4 p.m. The first tour of the old campus begins at 8:45 a.m. and the second tour begins at 12:45 p.m. for those who have made advance arrangements; 4 p.m. is the first rehearsal for the reunion choir, which is to be held at the UCC Church on 5th and Walnut and the "Greyhound Greats" celebration and recognition ceremony will be held at Murdo's Aten Resort on Highway 121 along the Missouri River at 5 p.m. At that time outstanding men and women athletes in the sports of football, basketball, baseball, track and cross-country and wrestling will be honored and their names will be added to those previously named "Greyhound Greats." Honorees will be attending from all corners of the United States.
On Saturday, July 17 registration will continue from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and the Gift & Book Store will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. The YC office will be open from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and again from 2 to 4 p.m. At 11:30 a.m., the letterwinners' luncheon and hall of fame awards will be held at the Kelly Inn. New inductees into the hall of fame are coaches: Ron Blaylock, Jim Holwerda and Bill Whisler; and YC alumni: Jim Gentile, Ken Michaelsen, Robert Pattee and Richard Downs. Team awards will also be given to the 1970 Greyhound Football Team.
At 12 p.m., the Humanities Hall of Honor luncheon will be held also at the Kelly Inn. The Humanities Hall of Honor awards will be presented to Robert Fanslow (posthumously), David Hardy, Myrna K. Andersen and Henrietta Stithe Andrews. At 3 p.m. the YC talent showcase will be held at YC's Alumni Hall at YHS, followed by a second reunion choir rehearsal at the same location.
Master of ceremonies for the celebration banquet is Bob Winter at the Kelly Inn which begins with a social hour at 5:30 p.m. Alumni achievement awards will be presented to Perry Strombeck, Bruce Pirnie and Michael Jaffe; a Pro Causa Award going to Cathy Rehfuss and the Alumni Service Award to Paul Rehfuss. The reunion choir, under the direction of Virgil Andersen and accompanied by Myrna Andersen will perform and the evening will end with the singing of Hail, Yankton College!
An informal brunch will be held at Minerva's on Sunday July 18 at 10 a.m. The Gift & Book Store will also be open 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
