Two members of the Vermillion Area Swim Team (VAST) qualified to compete in the Central Zones Swimming Championships, held in Lincoln, NE Aug. 6 through Aug. 8.
Swimmers from Iowa, Indiana, Ohio, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Nebraska, South Dakota and North Dakota all competed for their respective states. Below are the results of the two VAST swimmers who qualified to the meet:
Maddie Lavin results:
100 Freestyle, 23rd; 200 Freestyle, 16th, 100 Backstroke, 19th; 50 Butterfly, 27th; 100 Butterfly, 18th; 200 Individual Medley, 24th; 200 Freestyle Relay, 12th; 200 Medley Relay, eighth.
Madisen Martinez Results:
100 Breaststroke, 14th; 200 Freestyle Relay, 14th; 200 Medley Relay, 14th.
Both girls competed for TEAM SOUTH DAKOTA – which was a group of kids that either needed a National Age Group "AAA" time to qualify or be selected from the state. They are both 10 years old and have been swimming for VAST for the last few years.
The winter season at VAST will start on Tuesday, Sept. 7 at the DakotaDome pool. Practice will begin at 7 p.m.
All new swimmers are welcome and will receive a two week free trial period. There are no "tryouts" – we can have everyone on the team. The winter season meets begin sometime in October and go until the beginning of April 2011 with meets located in Yankton, Sioux Falls, Sioux City, Lincoln, NE, and Minneapolis MN.
