Carol Joy Burton Hubert

Carol Joy Burton Hubert, 83, of Vermillion, died Sunday, Aug. 29, 2010, at the Sanford Vermillion Medical Center.

Carol Burton was born Dec. 22, 1926, to Buel and Myrtle (Kaeberle) Burton, in Meckling. She graduated from Meckling High School in 1944 and married Earl Hubert on Nov. 25, 1948, in Meckling. They farmed for over 50 years in the Vermillion area, raising 11 children. She enjoyed flowers, birds, baking, and working in her yard. In 1987, they moved to the city of Vermillion. Carol especially enjoyed the time she spent with her friends at Wel-Life Assisted Living in Elk Point. Her favorite activities were playing bingo, cards and reading. Carol was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church. She took great pride in her 29 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

Survivors include four sons, Jim of San Diego, CA, Jerry (Jolene) of Vermillion, Kent (Nancy) of Anchorage, AK, and Mark (Lori) of Vermillion; seven daughters, Ann (James) Johnson of Vermillion, Paula (Bill) O'Connor of Burbank, Brenda (Skip) Lumley of Salem, OR, Karen (Jack) Hansen of Vermillion, Gayle of Yankton, Faye (Troy) Lubbers of Harrisburg, and Teresa (Scott) Peterson of Collinsville, TX.  She is also survived by three sisters, Jean (Bill) Barta of Gayville, Norma Prough of Palm Desert, CA and Diane Finks of Arlington, VA; and two sisters-in-law, Rosalie Hubert and Helen Burton both of Vermillion.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 55 years, Earl, her brothers LeRoy and Harold Burton.

A celebration of Carol's life was held on Friday, Sept. 3, at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Agnes Catholic Church in Vermillion, with burial to follow in the Calvary Cemetery in Vermillion. Visitation was Thursday, Sept. 2 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the church.
