The Clay County 4-H 5K Run/Walk held on Aug. 14, was a success due to the many people who helped and all the sponsors. The money raised from the 5K was donated to the Vermillion Food Pantry. Participants of the 5K also donated items for the food pantry. The shelves of the food pantry are getting empty. The money donated from the Clay County 4-H 5K will help the Vermillion Food Pantry to purchase much needed food items. In July the Vermillion Food Pantry fed 229 people. So far in 2010, 1,245 people have been fed through the Vermillion Food Pantry.
The main emphasis of the Clay County 4-H 5K run/walk was to help the Vermillion Food Pantry and to promote living healthy by running/walking. One of the main sponsors was 3-A-Day-Dairy (Midwest Dairy Association) who wanted to promote eating healthy and to remember that three servings of milk, cheese or yogurt are needed every day for stronger bones and better bodies. Research shows that Americans are getting only half of the recommended servings of dairy they need every day. Look for the 3-A-Day-Dairy logo on packages of milk, cheese and yogurt showing they are excellent sources of calcium and good sources of protein.
The Jolly J.J.'s 4-H club members and leaders would like to thank the many sponsors of the event: Bank of the West, Burbank Feeders 4-H club members, Burger King, Campbell Supply, Casey's General Store, Cyndi Dendinger, Freedom, Hy-Vee, J & J Theaters (Coyote Twin and Vermillion), Leo's Sports Bar and Grill, Little Debbie Snacks, Pizza Hut, The Print Source, Sanford Health, Colleen Speakman, Vermillion Vision Clinic, Wal-Mart and 3-A-Day-Dairy. The Jolly J.J.'s would also like to thank Alison Cwach for designing the Clay County 4-H 5K T-shirt logo.
The 2011 Clay County 4-H 5K run/walk will be even bigger and more successful with your help. We hope to see you running/walking the event in 2010 and helping the Vermillion Food Pantry and promoting healthy living.
