The International Delta Kappa Gamma Society presented Margaret Melby of Vermillion with the distinguished "Order of the Rose" Award in Pierre on June 5. The Rose Award is presented to a deserving member for their dedication, loyalty, achievement and leadership displayed throughout their teaching career.
The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International promotes professional and personal growth of women educators and excellence in education. Dr. Marjorie H. Beaty was responsible for organizing the Vermillion chapter on April 30, 1949.
Margaret began her teaching career at the age of 18, teaching at a country school in Sturgis. She has taught at many country schools in Clay County. She served as the principal at Meckling School before teaching first grade at Austin School for several years prior to her retirement.
Please join Margaret and her family in congratulating her on the occasion of her 97th birthday and recognizing her honor of receiving the "Order of the Rose" award on Thursday, Sept. 16 at the Vermillion Senior Center from 3 to 5 p.m. Margaret requests no gifts.
