Michael Dennis Hays, 43, of Burbank, entered into rest on Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2010 at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls.
Funeral service was on Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2010 at First Baptist Church in Vermillion at 1:30 p.m. with Pastor Elmer "Sandy" Aakre officiating. Cremation will follow the service. Visitation was held on Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2010 for family and close friends beginning at 6 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at Iverson-Siecke-Kober Funeral Home, Vermillion. Burial will be at a later date.
Mike was born on Jan. 21, 1967 in Vermillion to Harold ("Denny") and Helen (Chamberlain) Hays. He was a warm, witty, and wonderful man who had a thirst for knowledge. He enjoyed the outdoors and loved the arts and sciences. He also enjoyed sketching and graphic arts – some of which you may recognize today. His love of science fueled his quest to explain the inexplicable.
Mike was an amazing uncle to six nephews and nieces he adored. Uncle Mike dedicated his time to them and made the most of each visit. He was a kid at heart, and it was apparent in the special bond he shared with each one of them.
Mike is survived by his parents, Harold and Helen (Chamberlain) Hays of Burbank; sister, MeChell (Mustapha) Jabri of Connecticut; brothers, Lance and Scott Hays of Sioux Falls; grandmother, Evelyn Riehle of Burbank; his nephews and nieces, Jeffrey, Reese, Ethan, Cheyanne, Ava and Elias; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Chester and Gladys Chamberlain, Harold ("Bud") Hays and Lawrence Riehle; and his uncle, Larry Hays.
