Dell Rapids edged Dakota Valley by four strokes, 154-158, and Sioux Falls Christian by five at the top of the leader board as the Quarriers won the team title in the Vermillion boys golf invitational meet at The Bluffs last Friday.
Playing nine holes on a damp, drizzly morning, Peyton Sanders of Dakota Valley was the medalist with a 37, but three others – Christian's Jon Van't Hul, Dell Rapids' Michael Schmidt, and Dakota Valley's Taylor White – had the same score.
Vermillion finished the 10-team tournament with a team score of 188. Peter Haught led the Tanagers with a 45, followed by Mitch Nelson's 46, Carter Andre's 48, Zach McDonald's 49, Mitch Ellison's 53 and Jay Munger's 66.
In a dual earlier last week VHS and Lennox fought to a 184-184 deadlock. Nelson had the day's best score at 44 with Andre at 45 and McDonald 46. Haught carded a 49 and Ellison a 54. The Orioles' best was a 46 by Dusty Javers.
The Tanagers will be at Elk Point-Jefferson's invitational today (Friday) and at the Big 8 Conference meet in Madison Tuesday.
