The University of South Dakota Student-Athlete Advisory Committee will conduct a "Trick or Treat for Kids" food drive around Vermillion from 4:30 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 31. SAAC will donate the proceeds to the local Weekend Backpack Food program.
Members of SAAC will go door-to-door on Halloween night in the Vermillion area to collect individually packaged items such as mac and cheese, apple sauce, soup, popcorn, granola bars, etc. The Weekend Backpack Food program sends backpacks filled with food home with local underprivileged children.
"The 'Trick or Treat for Kids' project is a great start to the year for the USD SAAC program," SAAC co-president Rita Buschbacher said. "We always to want have more of an impact in the community and this event allows us to give back to children, some of the best Coyote fans around."
SAAC representatives will be in the MUC from 11-2 p.m. this week to take donations and a bin has also been placed in the athletic offices of the DakotaDome. Anyone interested in donating or assisting can email Buschbacher or SAAC co-president Erik Helland.
SAAC is a group that serves as the Coyotes' voice for a variety of issues. Comprised of representatives from each team, the group meets biweekly to discuss issues and collaborate on events including community services projects.
