Thomas Alan Schwartz, Ph.D., will present the 2010 Herbert S. Schell Lecture, "Henry Kissinger, Vietnam, and Iraq: The Problem of Realism in American Foreign Policy," at The University of South Dakota on Monday, Oct. 18 at 7:30 p.m. in the Freedom Forum Conference Room, which is located at the Al Neuharth Media Center.
Schwartz is professor of history at Vanderbilt University and a member of the Program of Distinguished Lecturers of the Organization of American Historians. He has written extensively on America's relations with Europe, especially Germany, and his research concerns alliance politics and the modern American presidency. Schwartz teaches courses dealing with the history of U.S. foreign relations, the Vietnam War and the Middle East. He is currently writing two books: a biography of former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger and a history of the Cold War.
