Seven dual matches remain in the regular season for the Vermillion Tanagers volleyball team, starting next Thursday with a match on the road at Madison.
The Tanagers will then play at Ponca, Canton, Beresford and Harrisburg and have home duals with Dakota Valley and Elk Point-Jefferson before district tournament play begins in the first week of November.
Last week VHS faced Tea Area at the home gym, and the Titans bested the Tanagers by a 3-0 score. Game scores were 25-14, 26-24 and 25-14.
At Milbank's tournament Saturday, Vermillion lost its opening match to Harrisburg, a dual which featured three very close games in a four-game match. The Tigers won 25-15 and 25-23 before the Tanagers rallied with a 25-21 win, but Harrisburg won Game No. 4 by a 25-22 count.
In the consolation semifinals, which were best 2-of-3, Tri-Valley topped Vermillion 2-0 on scores of 25-18 and 25-12. In the seventh-place match Dakota Valley won 2-1 even though the Tanagers won the opening game 25-17. The Panthers followed that up with wins by 25-22 and 25-13.
