Verdict: USD School of Law one of nation’s best

The University of South Dakota School of Law has been recognized by The Princeton Review as one of the nation's most outstanding law schools.

The education services company features USD's law school in the new 2011 edition of its book, "The Best 172 Law Schools," available on newsstands now. Known for its college rankings based on how students rate their schools, The Princeton Review does not rank the law schools academically or hierarchically. Instead, the rankings are based on student surveys conducted during the 2009-10, 2008-09 and 2007-08 academic years.

According to the survey results, the USD School of Law earns plaudits for having "one of the best Native American Law programs available, as well as a strong criminal law program." USD earned praise for widening its law school curriculum by offering such courses as media and communication law, immigration law, sports law, and military law. Another asset is the law school's close relationship with the State Bar and the Unified Judicial System in South Dakota, which provide great opportunities for students to get involved in the practice of law in the state of South Dakota.
