Vergie Violet (Offerdahl) Fickbohm, known as Violet all of her life, passed away Thursday, Oct. 7, 2010 at Sanford Vermillion Care Center at age of 93.
Violet was born in Union County, SD near Spink, on June 11, 1917 to Rudolph and Lillian (Davis) Offerdahl. Violet lived in the farming communities in and around Spink in her youth. She worked in Elk Point until she married Herbert E. Fickbohm on Aug. 23, 1937 at Peace Lutheran Church in Alcester. They farmed there until they moved to Vermillion in 1946 where they lived the remainder of their lives. Herbert passed away Jan. 9, 2010.
Violet loved children, flowers, and animals, but her first love was always for her family. She was well known for her volunteer work at the nursing home in Vermillion. She and Herbert were made volunteers of the year for their service. She also loved to read and do embroidery. Violet was also known for her kind heart and sweet nature. She was a member of Cornerstone Assembly of God.
Survivors include her son, Herbert V. Fickbohm of Vermillion; her daughter, Sally Ann Mettler of Stevensville, MI; eight grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild; her brother, Merle Offerdahl of Vermillion.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Rudolph and Lillian (Davis) Offerdahl, her husband, Herbert; and her brothers, Lawrence, Milton, and Rudolph Offerdahl.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2010 at Cornerstone Assembly of God, 516 North Crawford Rd, Vermillion with Pastor Devon Davoux officiating. Burial followed in BluffView Cemetery, Vermillion. Visitation was from 7 to 8 p.m., Monday, Oct. 11, 2010 at Iverson-Siecke-Kober Funeral Home, Vermillion.
