The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced today the release of the Draft Programmatic Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the Mechanical Creation and Maintenance of Emergent Sandbar Habitat on the Riverine Segments of the Upper Missouri River.
The comment period will be open through Jan. 21, 2011. Public meetings will take place in December 2010 and January 2011.
The Corps has scheduled public involvement meetings in Bismarck, N.D., Fort Peck, Mont., Pierre, Yankton, Sioux City, Iowa, Omaha, Neb., and Kansas City, Mo.
The Pierre, Yankton and Sioux City meeting details are as follows:
• Tuesday, Dec. 7: Pierre, Best Western Ramkota Hotel & Conference Center, 920 W. Sioux Avenue, Pierre, SD. 57501.
• Wednesday, December 8: Yankton, Riverfront Event Center, 121 W. 3rd Street, Yankton, SD. 57078.
• Thursday, Dec. 9: Sioux City, IA, Stoney Creek Inn & Conference Center, 300 3rd Street, Sioux City, IA. 51101.
The Tentative schedule at the ESH PEIS public meetings: 5 to 6:15 p.m. open house; 6:15 to 7 p.m. presentation;7 to 8:00 p.m. questions/comments/more open house.
