The South Dakota swimming and diving teams fell to Wisconsin-Green Bay in dual meet action Saturday at the DakotaDome in Vermillion. The Coyote men fell, 145-96 while the women dropped a 159-82 decision to the Phoenix.
The South Dakota men (0-3 duals) had strong outings from junior Terry Rolfe (Newcastle, WY) and junior Thad Stoddard (Douglas, WY), while junior Elizabeth Hoffman (Eureka) won two events to pace the Coyote women.
Rolfe recorded a win in the 100 freestyle, posing a time of 53.53, and added a victory in the 200 IM at 2:12.45. Stoddard won the 100 backstroke at 59.22 and was victorious in the 200 freestyle at 1:58.57.
Junior Dane VanArkel (Colorado Springs, CO) won the 50 freestyle at 24.71 for the South Dakota men.
Freshman Alex Dayan (Papillion, NE) was second in the 100 breaststroke at 1:10.78, with freshman Dakota Wheeler (Oklahoma City, OK) taking third at 1:11.13. Wheeler was third in the 100 butterfly at 1:00.59. Junior Gabe Sands (Greeley, CO) was second in the 100 backstroke at 1:01.83.
The South Dakota men's 200 medley relay won with a time of 1:47.56. Stoddard, Miller, Wheeler, VanArkel.
The Coyote 200 freestyle relay, consisting of VanArkel, Sands, sophomore Cody Horton (Mitchell) and junior Matthew Weyer (Taos, NM), was second at 1:39.68.
Hoffman won two more events for the Coyote women (0-5 duals), capturing the 200 freestyle (2:11.03) and the 400 freestyle (4:32.94).
Freshman Mariah Anderson (Kearney, NE) was second in the 100 backstroke and was third in 50 freestyle the 28.32. Freshman Brooke Zhorne (Chanhassen, MN) was third in the 100 backstroke 1:12.82.
Junior Janine James (Cheyenne, WY) won the 3-meter diving at 236.33 and was third in the 1-meter diving at 218.77.
Sophomore Stephanie Goddard (Casper, WY) was second in the 100 breaststroke at 1:20.93. Senior Sallie Collins (Hastings, MN) was third in the 200 IM at 2:33.82, while senior Rita Buschbacher (Brighton, MI) was third in the 100 freestyle at 1:03.15.
Freshman Linay McCrady (Savage, MN) was third in the 800 freestyle at 9:44.
South Dakota's 200 freestyle relay was second at 1:51.62. That consisted of Hoffman, Buschbacher, sophomore Kaitlyn Jefferson (Westland, MI), and McCrady.
The next action for both Coyote teams is on Nov. 12-13 at the Border Battle in Stevens Point, WI.
