Emlyn Benson, 87, of Vermillion, passed away Monday, Nov. 1, 2010 at the Prairie Estates Care Center in Elk Point.
Emlyn Bensen was born Oct. 20, 1923 in Vermillion to Nels and Amanda (Hansen) Bensen; she attended country schools and graduated from the University of South Dakota with a teaching certificate.
Emlyn taught school for four years before she married B.H. "Bud" Benson on June 22, 1947 in Vermillion. She then became a stay at home mom and enjoyed raising her four children and traveling to many places in the United States and abroad with her husband.
She is survived by her two sons, Ronald Benson of Humboldt, IA and Alan Benson of Vermillion; two daughters, Janice (Giles) Struck of Algona, IA, Jill Ann (Dale) French of Harrison, OH; two brothers, Glen (Faye) Bensen of Chandler, AZ and Don (Roberta) Bensen of Vermillion; and a sister, Shirley (Morris) Marcotte of Worthington, MN. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Hillary (Mike) Petula, Tyler (Lindsey) Struck, Brooke (Ron) Fenneman, Ashley Ann French and Cooper French; and three great grandchildren, Aidan and Brecken Petula and Simon Fenneman.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bud; three brothers, Adrian, Darrel and Amos; and a sister, Glennys Robbins.
Funeral services were 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 4 at the Bergen Lutheran Church in rural Meckling, with burial in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation was from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 3 at the Hansen Funeral Home in Vermillion. Online condolences and obituary: hansenfuneralhome.com.
