Yankton Medical Clinic, P.C. Board Certified Dermatologist, James W. Young, D.O., FAOCD, was recently recognized by the American Academy of Dermatology for his participation in free annual melanoma/skin cancer screenings for the past 12 years.
Over the last 12 years Dr. Young has conducted free skin cancer screenings for over 1,100 patients. Of those examined at the screenings, many had never been examined before by a dermatologist; and many had suspicious lesions which necessitated follow up, several of those could possibly be non-melanoma skin cancer and several could be a melanoma, the most serious form of skin cancer.
More than one million Americans will probably get skin cancer this year. However, if detected and treated early, this disease can often be cured. If we learn the early warning signs of skin cancer and conduct self-examinations, we can put a stop to this ever-growing disease. If you have a suspicious mole or lesion, please make an appointment to see your physician or dermatologist.
Dr. Young has been in practice at Yankton Medical Clinic, P.C. since June 1998. He also has outreach clinics in Freeman and Vermillion.
