Head coach Ed Meierkort, along with the rest of South Dakota Athletic Department, are asking fans to "white out" the DakotaDome on Saturday against Cal Poly. Kickoff for the Coyotes' final home game of 2010 is set for 4:05 p.m.
"We've always had great fan support and now we are asking them to help us wrap up a great home season by wearing white," Meierkort said. "This is another fun way to show the excitement level around our program."
Coyote fans are usually encouraged to wear red to home games, but the USD administration has asked fans to don white to show their support for the Coyotes against a tough Great West Conference foe. The Mustangs are USD's final GWC opponent of the season and enter the weekend second in the league standings. The white-clad crowd will show their support to a three-state area, as Midco Sports Network will air the game live.
A limited number of white "Coyote Crazies" T-shirts will be available for students, while white rooter poms will be handed out to early-arriving fans. Mountain Dew's new white out flavor will be sold in 20 oz. bottles for $1 at the concession stand.
Saturday will also be USD's annual Military Appreciation Day. All military personnel and veterans receive free admission, while their families can get in for half price. Coyote Tailgate Nation opens at noon and the football team will do the "Yote Walk" at 2 p.m. To purchase tickets contact the USD Ticket Office at (605) 677-7833.
