Annette Sorlie, Sioux Falls, SD died December 22, 2010, in Sioux Falls.
The third of eight children, Annette Sorlie was born to Glen and Catherine Danielson on December 7th, 1952, in Vermillion, South Dakota. She loved baking with her Grandma D on the family farm and would excel at baking her entire life.
Annette was on the move early in life as her fathers work shuffled the growing family around the United States some 22 times before settling in Alcester, South Dakota in 1965. She graduated from high school in 1970 and attained a bachelors degree in home economics at South Dakota State University in 1974. Soon after graduation Annette began teaching and in August of 1975 she married Kenn Sorlie in Beresford, SD. Kenns career brought them to Sioux Falls, SD in 1977, but with no teaching positions available, Annette began her profession as a tailor at Simpson Tailors. It was during this time that arthritis and other health issues emerged that continued to plague Annette throughout her life. Doctor visits and prescriptions became part of her everyday routine.
Annette beamed with pride as the mother of three beautiful children. She was also considered a second mom by many of her childrens friends as well as her nieces and nephews. She simply saw the best in everyone and was known to be remarkably patient. Annettes interests were many, but among her favorites were sewing, gardening, and spinning and weaving. She was a member of the Crossthreads Fiber Guild and Minnehaha County Master Gardeners. In more recent years, Annette worked in alterations for several local retail stores (Daytons/Marshall Fields, The Buckle, Banana Republic, and Posh Boutique) and also began her home tailoring business called Stitches. The demand for her exceptional skills was great. Word-of-mouth recommendations by satisfied, loyal customers kept her so busy she hesitated handing out business cards.
In June of this year, Annette was diagnosed with non-Hodgkins lymphoma, and in December we lost our favorite girl long before we were ready to let her go. Joyful having shared her life is her husband Kenn and their children: Ian of Minneapolis, MN, Collin of San Antonio, TX, and Errin of Sioux Falls, SD, her parents Glen and Catherine Danielson of Vermillion, SD, and siblings Jean Cowherd (Louis) of Rapid City, SD, Dan Danielson (Deb Steinhoff) of Sioux Falls, SD, Bruce Danielson of Sioux Falls, SD, Carol Iverson of Omaha, NE, Sharon Kidder (Jeff) of Scottsdale, AZ, Kay Hall (Mark) of Lincoln, NE, and Terese Danielson of Sioux Falls, SD as well as extended family who all carry endearing memories of her.
The family was present from 5-7 pm on Monday, December 27th with a prayer service at 7pm all at Miller West Funeral Chapel (41st and Valley View Rd.) In honor of Annettes request, a private interment will be held at a later date.
