The Second Annual Parade of Lights is today (Friday) at 6:30 p.m. in Downtown Vermillion. At the end of the parade please join Santa & Mrs. Claus as they light the Community Christmas Tree at Ratingen Platz on the corner of Market & Main streets. After the tree lighting, children and parents are invited to the Vermillion Public Library for "Stockings for Soldiers," an opportunity to make ornaments to take home, and to decorate a stocking for a soldier serving overseas. If you would like to submit an entry into the Parade of Lights, entry forms are available at www.vermillionchamber.com or at the VCDC office at 116 Market Street. Vehicle power inverters are available at Dakota PC Warehouse. There will be a trophy and a prize of $25 in Vermillion Bucks for the best entry! "Leadership from the Heart Training" with Famous Dave Anderson's Award Winning Leadership Skills Training Staff: Southeast Entrepreneurial Resource Program welcomes "Leadership from the Heart Training," Saturday, Dec. 4 from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 5 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Location: Beacom School of Business Incubator, third floor. The two-day professional and personal development training is sponsored by the Small Business Development Center and Vermillion Area Chamber & Development Co. Training is highly experiential and is developed for maximum learning to life application. The training is highly interactive and hands on and is designed to expand your comfort zone. The Vermillion Area Community Foundation is accepting proposals for projects to improve our community. Forms for submitting proposals by groups or organizations are available at the Chamber of Commerce office. While funds available are limited we can fully fund small one time requests or partially fund larger projects. Your annual donations to our Foundation will provide us with increasing funds each year for worthwhile projects.

Help Alleviate Hunger – the Vermillion Lions Club is collecting canned goods for the Vermillion Food Pantry. Each year, the Lions Club collects food and fills Christmas Boxes for needy families in our community, and they need your help. Pressing Matters is helping the Lions Club and will accept your canned goods anytime through the end of January 2011. For each donated can of food brought to Pressing Matters, get an equal number of FREE color copies.

River, Mound, Prairie, Sky: This year's Holiday Celebration, at Washington Street Arts Center, 202 Washington Street, Vermillion, highlights the theme, "River, Mound, Prairie, Sky." Works by 30 visual artists and poets will be on display at a reception Saturday, Dec. 4 from 6 to 9 p.m. and on Sunday, Dec. 5 from 1 to 4 p.m. with a poetry reading from 2 to 3 p.m. Saturday evening's reception will feature music by jazz saxophone and piano duo, C. J. Kocher and Brad Richardson. Hors d'oeuvres, desserts and drinks will be served. Light refreshments will be served at the Sunday afternoon event. Co-sponsors are Spirit Mound Trust, Sierra Club's Living River Group, and Vermillion Area Arts Council. These events are free and open to the public.

Christmas Festival at the W.H. Over Museum : The Friends of the W. H. Over Museum's 43rd annual Festival of Holiday Fun will take place on Sunday, Dec. 5 from 1 to 4:30 p.m. There will be the annual "best in the state" bake sale and the Gift Shop will be open during the festival. Trees trimmed by several area organizations and individuals are ready to be enjoyed throughout the holiday season and will remain decorated and lit until Jan. 1, 2011. They will be located throughout the museum and in the Time to Remember Gallery. USD Women's Basketball host Wichita State University Sunday, Dec. 5 at 2 p.m. in the DakotaDome.
USD's Truran Piano Scholars present their recital to the public at no charge on Sunday, Dec. 5 at 4 p.m. in Colton Recital Hall, Warren M. Lee Center for the Fine Arts on USD campus.
Celebrate Vermillion: A Clay County Holiday Festival: Santa Claus is coming to USD, Sunday, Dec. 5 from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at USD's Muenster University Center Pit Lounge ! This holiday event will allow children from the community to meet and take a picture with Santa Claus! This event is free; however, it is $3 per picture with Santa. There will be snacks and drinks available at no charge, as well as a free-will donation table. All the proceeds will be given back to the Vermillion Public Schools. Lewis & Clark Theatre Announces Auditions for "Harvey." Auditions will be held at the theatre, 328 Douglas St., in Yankton on Dec. 5 and 6 at 7 p.m. There are a variety of roles available for various adult ages. The play will run Feb. 3-6 and 11-13, 2011. St. Agnes School is hosting their First Annual Breakfast with Santa Community Event. Please join us on Saturday, Dec. 11, in the St. Agnes School Gym. Pancakes, sausage, applesauce and beverages will be served from 9 to 11:30 a.m. The event will feature: Santa, Santa's workshop – local vendors, children's crafts, story time, and live Christmas music.
