The Downtown Vermillion Action Team (DVAT) is sponsoring the second annual Downtown Vermillion Holiday Tree Contest. Decorated holiday trees will be ready for viewing today (Friday), the day of the Vermillion Chamber's Holiday Parade and Santa's visit.
Balloting for the best holiday tree will take place between Dec. 3 and 13. People are encouraged to see all 14 trees and then vote for their favorite. The winning business will receive a gift and publicity in the newspaper. There will also be a drawing of one customer' name who voted for the trees. The winning customer will receive a basket filled with wonderful items from the Downtown Vermillion merchants. Bank of the West was the winner of last year's Holiday Tree contest and Maria Heimstra won the basket of goodies from the Downtown merchants.
In addition to the Holiday Tree Contest, the DVAT will introduce "CHANGE FOR CHANGE". The DVAT encourages customers to contribute their change in boxes located in 23 Downtown businesses from Dec. 3-13. Money collected will be donated to the Vermillion Food Pantry. It has been a tough year for the Food Pantry so it is hoped that people's "change" will make a difference and change someone's life in Vermillion.
