The initial court appearance for Charles Lubbers was granted a continuanceand moved to Tuesday, Dec. 14. The appearance was suppose to take place this past Tuesday, Nov. 30.
Lubbers was indited on one count of first-degree simple assault on Nov. 5. The indictment occurred because of an incident between Lubbers and a Vermillion middle school football player. According to reports, Lubbers said the boy was trying to tackle another player after the whistle blew and Lubbers put his arm out to stop the boy, knocking him to the ground. He says the incident has been blown out of proportion.
Lubbers is the head of the University of South Dakota contemporary media and journalism department.
