Neoma was born at the family home on August 31, 1925, in Coleridge, NE to Fred and Catherine (Dirks) Milbrodt and attended North Star Country School near the family farm. In 1943, the family moved to Sioux City, IA. She worked there for several years and met her future husband, Arden, after his return from service in the Navy during World War II.
Neoma and Arden were married on September 22, 1951 in Sioux City and settled on the Jensen farm in Burbank, SD. Neoma worked side-by-side with Arden for over 58 years operating a dairy farm, taking care of her family and various farm animals and family pets they raised over the years. She excelled as a cook feeding family, friends and hired hands with countless memorable meals. Neoma and Arden worked the farm until retirement in 1992.
Neoma enjoyed life thoroughly as a dedicated farm wife, mother and helpmeet: cooking, gardening, canning, raising her family and running the house. Her hobbies included reading and embroidery; she loved to bake breads, pies, cakes and cookies (always from scratch), and trying new recipes from cookbooks and her many friends. She was also an expert at patching up the scrapes, scratches, bumps and bruises of her many nephews and nieces who loved to visit the farm. Family gatherings are replete with stories of the many adventures and wonderful meals and desserts especially the PIES!!
Neoma was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary VFW #3061 in Vermillion, SD for 47 years. She was a member of the Rockfield Lutheran Church and Ladies Aide, and later a member of Dalesburg Lutheran Church in Vermillion and their WELCA Womens Group. In the early 50s, she was also a member of the Idle a While Extension Club.
Neoma wife, mother, grandmother and friend was a constant source of love, support and hope. Neoma and Arden instilled self-confidence and strength in their family and provided continuous inspiration in their lives. We cherish her she will forever remain one of our hearts most precious memories.
