Sam Jensen and Sarah Szymonski were announced as the VHS November Students of the Month. They are being honored for their leadership in the classroom and in the community. Both will receive a $100 scholarship from First Bank & Trust-Vermillion.Jensen "is a great student who takes his classwork seriously," as noted by his faculty recommendation. "Through a quiet and determined demeanor, he excels in his studies and contributes well to class activities."His high school activities include tennis, Quiz Bowl, debate and band. He plans to study either aeronautical engineering or computer programming in college. His parents are Carolyn and Jeff Jensen.Szymonski's numerous activities include student council, basketball, band and journalism. She is the National Honor Society president and also attended Girls State. Her parents are Jason and DeAnn Szymonski."Sarah is one of those rare students who goes above and beyond what is expected," according to her endorsement. "However, it's her genuine concern for others that is her most endearing quality." Her college plans are to major in education with either an early childhood or elementary degree.
