Elly Melby and Amber Walker, the two veterans of the Vermillion High gymnastics team, led the way for the Tanagers in their season-opening dual Tuesday night at the VHS gym.
Vermillion dropped a dual to Sioux Falls Lincoln by a count of 134.7 to 119.875. Jamie Eszlinger of the Patriots was the all-around winner.
Melby finished fourth in the all-around standings with a 32.35 total, and Walker was right behind at 31.1 in fifth place. Melby's individual places were third on the beam, fourth on the bars, fifth in floor exercise and fourth in the vault while Walker was fourth on the floor and fifth in the vault.
The Tanagers are now idle until Wagner's invitational on Dec. 11.
