Tree of Lights

The USD Department of Music, in collaboration with the Dakota Hospital Foundation, performed a holiday concert Sunday, Dec. 12, in the Vermillion High School Performing Arts Center. Following the concert, a reception and tree lighting was held at Sanford Vermillion Hospital. Proceeds from the concert and fourth annual Tree of Lights project will assist in covering the costs of mammography services for the underinsured and underserved population in the area as well as mammography services for those unable to afford the screening. The Tree of Lights provides community members with the opportunity to purchase a light in memory of, in honor of, or as a special holiday greeting to friends, coworkers and loved ones. The four-story evergreen located at the corner of Main and Plum streets at Sanford Vermillion has been designated for the touching display. The Tree of Lights will remain lit through the holiday season. Sunday's concert included performances by several USD ensembles, including the Concert Choir and Chamber Singers, the Symphonic Band, the Jazz Ensemble, and the USD Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Dr. Rolf Olson. The concert concluded with a sing-along medley of traditional Christmas songs, led by baritone Brandon Hendrickson. See more photos of the day's events at spotted.yankton.net
