VHS gymnastics earn second in triangular

Vermillion's gymnasts finished behind Sioux Falls Roosevelt but ahead of West Central in earning second place in a triangular at the VHS gym Friday night.

The Tanagers scored 124.85 points compared to Roosevelt's 137.35 and West Central's 113.95.

Vermillion's Elly Melby placed third in the all-around standings with a 33.65 score, and Amber Walker tied for fifth at 33.0. The individual champion was Roosevelt's Jenna Middlen at 36.55.

Melby placed second on the beam with an 8.85 score and was also second in the vault with the same score.

Walker brought home a fourth on the bars at 7.9, fourth on the beam at 8.2, fifth in floor exercise at 8.5 and fifth in the vault at 8.4.

The Tanagers' biggest meet of the year, the annual Winter Wonderland classic, will be held at the VHS gym on Thursday, Dec. 30, with competition beginning at 11:30 a.m.
