Viola L. Bremer, 92, of Vermillion, died Thursday, Dec. 2. 2010 at the Sanford Vermillion Care Center.Viola Hansen was born Feb. 1, 1918 in Westerville, to Adolph and Marie (Erickson) Hansen. She grew up in the area, and graduated from the University High School in Vermillion.She married Robert Bremer on Aug. 19, 1945 at the Bergen Lutheran in Rural Meckling; Robert passed away in March of 2010.Viola was active as a 4-H Leader, The Extension Club, and the First United Methodist Church as a Sunday School teacher, and for women's fellowship. She was also a co-founder of the Vermillion Senior Citizens Center in 1969, and had continued to prepare and serve monthly dinners, bookkeeping and working bazaars. She enjoyed raising flowers, gardening, traveling with her husband and spending time with family.She is survived by her son, Paul (Ruth) Bremer of Vermillion; two daughters, Patricia (James) Doohen of Sioux Falls, and Gayle (Richard) Johnson of Wakonda; nine grandchildren, Sheldon Johnson, Jill Mockler, Sarah Doohen, Laura Healy, Lisa Doohen, Adam Bremer, Jennifer Grosen, Kelly Knutson and Brad Brunick; and seven great- grandchildren.Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 6 at the First United Methodist Church in Vermillion with burial following in the BluffView Cemetery in Vermillion. Visitation began at 5 p.m. Sunday with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at the Hansen Funeral Home in Vermillion. Online condolences and obituary: hansenfuneralhome.com.
