USD/Vermillion Day in Pierre is Wed., Feb. 9. Meet with the state departments, tour the capitol, and watch your legislative team in action. Join business and civic leaders on a community bus ride. The Vermillion Area Community Foundation is accepting proposals for projects to improve our community. Forms for submitting proposals by groups or organizations are available at the Chamber of Commerce office. While funds available are limited we can fully fund small one time requests or partially fund larger projects. Your annual donations to our Foundation will provide us with increasing funds each year for worthwhile projects.

Announcement: United Way Campaign is at 67% of its goal of $115,000. The campaign runs through January 31, 2011. United Way serves 20 agencies in the Vermillion area community that impact friends, family, and neighbors.
Help Alleviate Hunger�the Vermillion Lions Club is collecting canned goods for the Vermillion Food Pantry. Each year, the Lions Club collects food and fills Christmas Boxes for needy families in our community, & they need your help. Pressing Matters is helping the Lions Club & will accept your canned goods anytime through the end of January 2011. For each donated can of food brought to Pressing Matters, get an equal number of FREE color copies.

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Mon., Jan. 17 � no classes @ USD or Vermillion Public Schools
Vermillion Area Arts Council invites the public to an �Art for Peace Exhibit� honoring the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Visual art and poetry by artists of all ages will be on display Monday, January 17, from 2-6 p.m. at Washington Street Arts Center, 202 Washington Street. Hot apple cider and cookies will be served. Artists and poets are invited to display original works addressing the life of Martin Luther King, Jr., civil rights issues, social issues, or peace in any art form. All work must be hand-delivered to Washington Street Arts Center on Fri., Jan. 14, from 4-6 p.m.; or between 1 and 3 p.m. on Sat., Jan. 15. The event is free.
Preservation Wednesday Wed.,Jan. 19, 2011 at Vermillion Public Library @ 7:00 pm. Featuring Jim Wilson, �Building Materials: Evolution and Change over time�. Presented by the Clay County Historic Preservation Commission to the general public at no charge.
Book Blab will be held in the Community Room of the Vermillion Public Library, Thurs., Jan. 20 from 6-8 pm. Adult readers will share favorite authors and books and discover some new ones with other book lovers. Drinks and snacks will be provided.
Fun & Games Join us for an afternoon of Fun and Games in the Community Room of the Vermillion Public Library on Sat., Jan. 22 from 1-4 p.m. Adults and youth ages 12 and up will play board games and put jigsaw puzzles together. A wide variety of challenging and interesting games and puzzles will be available to provide mental stimulation. Learn or show others how to play Apples to Apples, our newest game. Drinks and snacks will be provided.
American Cancer Society Relay for Life of Clay County & USD, Sun., Jan. 30, 2011 from 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm @ USD DakotaDome. Relay for Life encourages teams of friends, neighbors, families, and co-workers to join together to raise money to fight cancer. The objective is for at least one member of each team to walk (or run) around the track for the entire event, symbolizing the fact that cancer never sleeps.
