The Southeast Dakota Experiment Farm Corporation will hold its annual winter meeting on Jan. 25.
The meeting starts at 1 p.m. at Southeast Research Farm, located at 29974 University Rd., 6 miles west and 3 miles south of Beresford. The farm�s board of directors has invited the public and all producers to the event. It concludes after county director elections at 3:30 p.m.
The program includes a welcome from board chairman, Alvin Novak, and a brief business meeting. After that, South Dakota Cooperative Extension Swine Specialist Bob Thaler will show ways to feed weather-damaged grain and alternative feeds to pigs. Extension Feedlot Specialist Ben Holland will discuss backgrounding calves on cover crops and nitrogen sources for finishing cattle.
Bob Berg, Southeast Research farm manager, will summarize cover crop performance and the effects of planting dates on various soybean maturity groups. Extension Water Management Engineer Chris Hay will present information on agricultural tiling and soil drainage.
Elections for director posts for Yankton, Lincoln, Minnehaha, Turner, Union, and Clay counties will also take place. For more information, call the farm at 605-563-2989.
